For tasty, authentic Chinese food in a traditional and tasteful setting, stop in at Peking House.
With a menu as thick as a short novel and over 100 dishes to choose from, customers are spoilt for choice.
Peking House offers all the usual suspects – chicken and cashew nuts, sweet and sour pork and combination fried rice. But more adventurous diners after something a little different than the standard Kiwi-Chinese dishes will not be disappointed.
As you would expect given the restaurant's name, it serves several particularly tasty variations on Peking Duck.
And you can't visit Peking House without sampling its specialty dishes; delicious braised chicken with date and chestnut and the tasty Yu Xiang Beef.
The popular restaurant offers both Beijing and Sichuan style dishes, has buffet options, hot and cold meals and vegetarian dishes. It is fully-licensed and allows for BYO wine.
The tough task of deciding what to order is made simpler by the friendly staff at Peking House. They happily offer advice on each dish, clear food bowls almost immediately, constantly refill your tea pot and provide damp towels to wipe your hands and mouth.
Although the emphasis at Peking House is on top quality meals, the interior is stylish and simple. It has folding lacquer screens, deep-piled carpet, white table clothes, highly polished rosewood chairs, silk cushions and Peking Opera Masks hanging from the white walls.
Peking House seats approximately 70 people and is open seven days for lunch and dinner.
