We wish to cordially invite you to join with the parish in celebrating the centenary of the consecration and opening of the present church of St Mary of the Angel's.

The celebration will focus on the connections between the church and the various communities, both catholic and civic, that have come to know and love its presence in the very heart of Wellington City. A church, under the name of Mary, that has always been open and welcoming to all as they experience the various seasons of their lives. Our celebrations will begin on Friday the 12th of August 2022, and conclude on Sunday the 14th of August 2022. 

The programme of events for this celebration is as follows:

Friday August 12

5.30PM: Mass of St. Peter Chanel with Society of Mary Provincial, Fr. Timothy Duckworth sm presiding to welcome the icon of St Peter Chanel, proto-martyr of the Pacific. With Occasional Preacher Fr Mervyn Duffy sm.

7.00PM: Talk by Jesse Munro on Mother Mary Aubert, held in the Parish Hall.

Saturday August 13

11.00AM: Mass of Healing with Fr John Rae sm preaching.

7.30PM: Concert honouring musical tradition of St Mary of the Angels. Including performances by SMoA choirs, schools and soloists including Fr. Chris Skinner sm. Entrance is by koha.

A history on the musical tradition of the Church will be on display in the back of the Church throughout the day.

Sunday August 15

9.00AM: Centenary Mass, with Archbishop Paul Martin sm

11.00AM: Mass of Dedication of St Mary of the Angels as the National Shrine of New Zealand, with Cardinal John Dew and the New Zealand Bishops.
