Welcome to 'Upper Hutt's Premier Experience' - Mayfair Cafe and The BoileRoom Wine bar.
The Summer Menu is available for perusal here.
Situated in Central Upper Hutt, a small red door opens up to an expansive space which used to
house the Mayfair Theatre in the 1900s. Mayfair Cafe combines Kiwi and International style cuisine
influenced from the travels of its Chef Owner Rob Cowan. Rob and his crew only use the freshest
local produce.
The BoileRoom Wine bar coined its name being the room that used to house the old boiler that
heated the old historic cinema. It is where great food, coffee and fine wine is served with
thoughtfulness and warmth. Mayfair has a nostalgic ambience that exudes style, history and a café
culture with a difference. Come and enjoy it with us.
Mayfair Cafe is open seven days with Wednesdays being Italian Nights @ The BoileRoom and dinners
served Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Bookings are highly recommended.
The BoileRoom is the first to introduce Italian Weds Nights - Blackboard menu of Pasta and Wine @
21.0 including a glass of wine or Steak and Ale from 28.0. Also first in the valley to get Upper
Hutt to giggle - SAT NIGHT LIVE LAUGHS! Comedy Club. Once a month stint almost every second Sat of
the mth. Call us when the next talent is coming.
With the Cafe’s expansive space, it hosted a few weddings where it can comfortably sit up to 70
with an a-la-carte style menu, it also hosted a few Big 21 to Big Five-O birthdays, with buffet
style menu and even children's parties. It is expansive yet cosy as it has that 100 year old
character and the great log fire.
A dinner menu to die for - Head Chef-owner Rob Cowan delights the palette with a selection of his
fine European, New Zealand and Asian cuisine influenced by his travels from around NZ, the UK,
Sydney, Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai and the Philippines.
"After my travels and NZ experience from great mentors and a Michelin star Chef, it is so great
to come back to my roots sharing the tastes, smells, colours and flavours I've experienced" says Rob
who is actually a local boy, born and bred in Upper Hutt.
Rob's experience stems from Brookfield’s estate, to the Boulcott Street Bistro, Te Papa's Icon, Felix
Cafe and his culinary learning stints overseas.
Mayfair Cafe and The BoileRoom supports the community and local talents. Every second Tuesday of
each month, the café hosts Mainly Acoustic - an evening of unplugged, acoustic music featuring both
local, countrywide and international artists.
The BoileRoom host the Soroptimist International every second Thursday of each month. It is a
world wide organisation for women in management and the professions, working through service
projects to advance human rights and the status of women.
