The Khandallah Village sits in the heart of this pleasant and affluent neighbourhood. Much of the
suburb surrounds Wellington harbour in a ‘dress-circle’ directly north of Wellington city with
hundreds of residences enjoying spectacular views.
The Village is a meeting place and the centre for easy shopping expeditions and includes cafes,
food stores, a day spa, stationer, pub, Post Shop, supermarket and public library. Parking is always
easy and handy.
Khandallah boasts many indoor and outdoor attractions and facilities including Khandallah Park,
Khandallah Pool, Nairnville Park, and Khandallah Tennis and Squash club.
If you’d like a more challenging outdoor experience, take a couple of hours to climb the 1459
feet up Mt KauKau. The ‘little mountain' can be accessed through Clark Street or Khandallah Park
(via Woodmancote Road).
Khandallah streets mainly have Indian names, which date back to the arrival of Englishman,
Captain James Andrew from India. Captain Andrew gifted land for the second Railway stop on the
Wellington-Manawatu Company line, a site on which the ‘Khandallah Homestead’ was built in 1884.
The area was subsequently named after the old Homestead.
