Managed by Positively Wellington Venues, the St James Theatre hosts some of the most exciting opera, ballet and major musical shows, and is home to the Royal New Zealand Ballet.

The building is one of New Zealand’s finest Edwardian influenced theatres and a wonderful example of early 1900’s architecture.

The 1912 building faced demolition in the late 1980's but fortunately was so well-loved by the people of Wellington that it was rescued and restored. Its $20 million restoration job was completed in 1998.

The theatre's foyer and rooms are available for hire and suitable for meetings, product launches, private dinners, on-stage dining options, parties and corporate shows.

In the foyer you'll find The Jimmy Café & Bar - a venue with a difference. During the day enjoy fresh food from the cabinet display. At night The Jimmy transforms into a vibrant pre-theatre café and bar. Enjoy pre-show dining and feel the excitement build as the audience assembles for curtain-up. After the show, experience luscious sweet treats and coffee.

The Jimmy is often booked out on show nights, so to avoid disappointment make sure you reserve a table in the dining area. For reservations phone 04 802 6917.

The Ticketek Box Office, located inside the foyer at the St James, is open from 9am to 5.30pm weekdays, Saturdays 10am until 2.00pm and until late on show nights.

St James Theatre is also home to the Royal New Zealand Ballet.
