The Hutt City's movie theatre complex, EVENT Cinemas, offers nine screens at the Westfield Queensgate Shopping Centre in Lower Hutt.

The multiplex, previously called Skycity, opened in August 2006 and boasts a total of 1543 seats. It features a 350-seat giant “Megascreen”, which shows mainly blockbusters and special event movies, and two Cinema Deluxe cinemas for those who enjoy a total movie-going experience.

The Cinema Deluxe is two exclusive Cinema Deluxe screens - seating 55 or 45 people, state of the art digital sound and wall-to-wall screens, reclining black leather seats. It also features the Cinema Deluxe Lounge for meals, drinks or a coffee before or after the movie with a fully licensed bar and menu. Drinks can be enjoyed inside the cinema.

All cinemas offer wider than usual seats, the latest in high-technology projection, sound and viewing, and superb comfort. The main foyer of Event Cinemas Queensgate has an interactive Stages Time Out games area, café and bar, and a large function space with up to three break-out rooms. Staff are attentive and friendly.

Cinemas are available for special functions, and discounts and other benefits are available for older adults who join the R60 Seniors Club. Parking is free in the Queensgate car park.

Admission Conditions: 1. Blockbuster pricing applies to movies advertised as a BLOCKBUSTER or NO TICKET DISCOUNTS APPLY (excludes use of Movie Money). 2. Student ID must have a photograph. 3. Senior Citizen must be over 60 years of age. 4. A current Community Services card must be presented. Proof of age is required for all restricted films, both at time of sale and on entry to the cinema. Film Festivals and special screenings may have special pricing. 5. The family pass is for a Family of 4, extra child tickets are available - conditions apply (Can be used for 2 adults & 2 children or 1 adult & 3 children. All tickets must be for the same film and same time of the film.) Relevant identification will be required for all discounted tickets.
