Oriental Bay is Wellington's premier beach and the place to go for a relaxing day out close to the city centre. Popular with runners, walkers, cyclists and rollerbladers, it's also a great place to take the kids for sand castle building on the beautiful golden sand, and a prime spot to sunbathe or swim.

There are plenty of great restaurants and cafes where you can enjoy their cozy interiors or sit outside to enjoy the sun.

Oriental Parade stretches from the end of Kent Terrace in the CBD right round to Point Jerningham, then beyond it becomes Evans Bay Parade as it heads to Kilbirnie.

The area boasts many beautiful character houses and modern apartments on the southern side and the beautiful blue sea on the other.

The Carter Fountain is a distinctive and much-loved feature of Oriental Bay, delighting residents since the 1970s. Located offshore in Oriental Bay, the fountain was a gift to the city from local resident Hugh Carter who was inspired by a fountain he saw in Geneva in the early 1960s.

On a hot summer's day, nothing beats strolling along the promenade and taking in the fresh sea breeze. Oriental Bay is definitely a spot worth visiting.
