2010 New Zealand International Comedy Festival Viva la comedy! It's the start of a comedic revolution! Comedy from all over the world and our own backyard is again congregating in Wellington to take part in the 18th annual NZ International Comedy Festival from 25 April - 15 May 2010. With standup, sketch, kids comedy, theatre, improv, physical and musical comedy, the 2010 Festival features hundreds of comedians across more than a hundred shows nationwide so there is definitely a laugh for everyone. Update: Popular UK comedian Jason Cook has had to cancel his week long season at the San Francisco Bathhouse due to an illness which has forced him to fly home at short notice for further treatment. Jason Cook was to perform Fear and Jason Cook's Asylum. However, award winning Brit comedian Tom Wrigglesworth has agreed to perform his acclaimed solo comedy show, ‘An Open Return Letter to Richard Branson’ from this Mon 10 May until Sat 15 May at 8-30pm in the San Francisco Bathhouse, a worthy replacement for Jason Cook. Ticket holders will have the option of a refund or redeeming their tickets for the alternative show. For more on Tom Wrigglesworth's show click here. See the full NZ International Comedy Festival programme below. Highlights of the final week of the Festival are: - The Big Show on 12-15 May at the Opera House, featuring a line up of four comedians - Terry Alderton (UK), Tom Wrigglesworth (UK), Andrew O'Neill (UK) and Jared Christmas (NZ) - One of New Zealand's best comics, Ben Hurley in Ultra Mega Alright from 12-15 May at the San Francisco Bathhouse - El Jaguar's Festival Fiesta de Haha will be a crazy night of party poppers and confetti from the masked Mexican ex-wrestler, at The Fringe Bar from 11-15 May - Joel Salom's Gadgets is a family-friendly show that combines circus, technology, music and a cynical robotic dog to entertain and amuse - on at Downstage from 11-15 May - The Giant Face starts Shortland Streeters Fleur Saville and Harry McNaughton, on at BATS from 11-15 May - Justine Smith is sheriff of Jussi Town in her fab new show at The Garden Club from 11-15 May - The Fringe Bar hosts several shows for the musically-minded - Cori Gonzalez-Macuer presents his show In2 Muzik at 7pm, and musical duo Mrs. Peacock mock New Zealand music in Nature's Beast at 10pm. The Wellington opening Festival event First Laughs, held on 25 April, turned up the heat with a star studded showcase of local and international comedians. Comedy Divas, Class Comedians, Late Laughs and Best of the Fest all return to entertain Festival audiences in 2010. The NZ Comedy Trust is also dedicated to the ongoing development of both emerging and professional comedians with the presentation of awards for excellence in comedy.
