Formed in 1980 and challenged to inspire people with ‘heart songs’ of The Salvation Army, the International Staff Songsters (ISS) is The Salvation Army’s premier choir in the international arena. They present a diverse range of Christian music from the classical to contemporary, traditional songs and spirituals.
Since their formation the ISS has cut 30 recordings, made numerous radio and television appearances, embarked on international tours to North America, Scandinavia, Australasia, Europe, Southern Africa and South America. They also present concerts regularly across the UK. About 30 strong in number, most members of the ISS live within a 2 ½ hour drive of London.
Established under the leadership of Norman Bearcroft, the musical horizons of the ISS continued to evolve under successive leaders; Len Ballantine, Peter Ayling and Andrew Blyth. The current leader (since 2003) Dorothy Nancekievill brings her own personality and passion for sharing Christian music to the group, exciting, challenging and inspiring audiences worldwide.
